I am trying to fill in some missing information about my g
granddad's parents. His name was William Joseph Hawthorn;
his Father's name was James P. Hawthorn. I have informa-
tion regarding James' marriage to Winny Ledbetter in 1839,
but William was already 4 years old. So there had to be a
first wife. I have found a marriage took place between a
James P. Hawthorn and a Jane Eliza Romell in Bourbon Co., KY
in 1829, and, I have received information that a James P. Hawthorn was married to a Catherine Agnew. I am having trouble confirming any of this for either woman (and I only need one first wife - I think! It will be my luck there were 2 ahead of Winny). James was b. in SC but his parents were from KY. He ended up living in Ill., which is where William was born and where James died and is buried with his wife Winny; Cass Co, Ill to be exact. I am guessing since William was born in Ill. that the first wife (or Wm's Mom)is also buried there. James was born in 1802 so I assume this Catherine was born about the same time. They probably married around 1822. An 1840 Census for Menard Co., Ill shows James, wife(Winny), and 2 ch under 5. James & Winny had 3 more children, but in 1840 my G Granddad was 5yrs. Since James & Winny were m. 1839, again I am guessing that the 2nd child along with my g granddad were born prior to this marriage, (the possibility of the 2nd one being Winny's is real but not William). I don't have any info as to who the 2nd child is, but there is a 6 or 7 yr difference between Wm. and his siblings, and the last 3 siblings are 2 years apart. If anyone researching the AGNEW line has come across a Catherine/Katherine Agnew & James Hawthorne please, please contact me. My e-mail address is email@example.com. I would appreciate any help. I'm batting
zero. Thanks so much.
