Lynne, To begin anew, here is what I have on the Hawtborn line [I descend from John Lawrence Hawthorn, 1815-1875]. Beginning with John [1775 SC], we know from Cass Co, Ill probate records that when he died there in 1850 his named heirs were: Catherine, his widow; Winney, representing heirs of James P Hawthorn; Mary, wife of Henry Taylor; John Lawrence [my ancestor]; Nancy, wife of Josiah Hurie; Harvey Benjamin; Margaret, wife of David Wooldridge; and Robert G. This profile of the family is supported by the 1850 Census, and other sources, such as:
a] Past & Present of Menard Co., Ill [1904] - bios of John S. Hurie and Samuel Watkins.
b] Perrin's History of Cass Co. [1882] - bio of Henry Taylor.
c] Atlanta Historical Society notes by Mrs Land 1945.
d] Transcript of John Hawthorn v. Asa Noe & William Hawks - Green Co., Ky Circuit Court, 1834.
Have you looked at the Cass Co. probate file for Estate of John Hawthorn [1775-1850]? Winney is listed as representing the children of her deceased husband, James P. That file should contain evidence of who those heirs were, i.e., their names, etc. This will name the children fathered by James P. Good luck, JimHolden
