NOTE on HAYSLETTE heritage:

"Among families who came from Ireland was John Haslet (b. abt 1766). Along with his wife, Eleanor, and daughter he emigrated to this country from Belfast in 1792 and settled in Berkeley County. Their crossing of the ocean took three months and was a very stormy trip, which was remembered with horror. One of the Hayslets wrote in 1950, that his grandfather had many times seen his father, when there was a high wind, walking the floor, wringing his hands and weeping because of all of the sailors out in the storm. It has been stated that the Hayslets were of a wealthy, high class family. Robert Hayslet married Hannah Payne, daughter of George Payne. The Paynes were another south Berkeley County family. Also, the Cunningham family married into the Hayslet family." “Berkeley Journal Features Old County Families,” Don C. Wood; POSTED: December 7, 2008
