I have an interest in the Haysoms at Southampton. When my G grandfather Thomas Gare (Aka Thomas Keylougher) was demobbed from the army (6th Dragoon Guards Carabiniers) in India in 1888 he first gave his address as being 76 St Mary St Southampton, crossed that out and replaced it by Sydney AU. I have checked that address and in the 1881 census it was inhabited by a William Haysom (some times spelt Hayson)wife Fannie - children Walter, William, Albert, Alice and Arthur. No 76 was part of a pub the Kingland Hotel and Hall of Variety run by a George Parsons. William Haysom is shown as being a cab proprietor. The family were still there in 1887 according to the Southampton street directory which is online. Was this the Albert who came out to Sydney? Do you know of any connection btn the Haysoms and Thomas Gare as we cannot work out why he gave their home in Southampton as his demob address and more particularly changed it to Sydney.
Regards Brian Gare
