HAYWOOD - DAYKIN in Melton Mowbray (Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire) 1830-1870
I am seeking information on the family of my gggrandmother, Betsy HAYWOOD WOOTTON. Her birth certificate (26 May 1842) lists father as John HAYWOOD of Harby (reg dist Melton Mowbray, spanning counties of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire) and mother as Mary DAYKIN. The earliest (and only) census records I have for a possibly relevant HAYWOOD family is 1861, with John HAYWOOD farmer living in Harby with wife ANN and assorted children, Thomas, Betsy, John, Eliza, James, Alfred, Sarah. ranging in age from 24 (Thomas) to 12 (Sarah).
I would like to know
(1) if anyone has documentation of a marriage between John HAYWOOD and Mary DAYKIN, probably in early 1830s. Evidence of Mary's death and subsequent marriage of John and Ann would be welcome as well. I am chasing the GRO birth certificates for various children to see if there is a shift in mother's maiden name.
(2) if there was a Caroline HAYWOOD in this or the immediately subsequent generation. Family letters refer to an Aunt Carri(e) who probably lived in Nottingham in the late 1800s, had a son Albert who emigrated to Winnipeg around 1900. I haven't found any appropriate Caroline or Carrie in the WOOTTON line.
If there is interest, I can provide information on Betsy HAYWOOD WOOTTON's descendants.
