Hello Terry,
I'm afraid I dont know anything about the said Matthew Heagney, my knowledge is confined to the Tyrone Heagneys. It was interesting to hear that the name originated in Galway, the family were kings of Fermanagh before the Maguires in 1202.The gaelic name is O Heighnigh .The name was changed to Heaney which accounts for its scarcity.Seamus Heaney is a famous poet who comes from south Derry, he won the nobel prize for literature a couple of years ago. The English version is Bird because of the mistaken ean which is gaelic for Bird, it therefore has no coat of arms instead taking on the Bird version.
