HEARLIHEY

After giving it some thought,I have to ask if HEARL might be a short var. of HEARLIHEY, an Irish surname with origins in County Cork.

I'd be delighted to hear from anyone on this list whose HEARL ancestors could possibly have changed their name from HERLIHY or HEARLIHEY, which are my forbears' surname vars.

My g-g-grandfather, Dennis Jeremiah HEARLIHEY, m Helen DRISCOLL in MA. abt. 1855. They had 9 children:

Mary (my g-grandmother)
Timothy
Jeremiah
Dennis
John
Kate
William
Nellie
unknown

Quite possibly, someone on this list is a descendant.
