I notice that your great grandfather came to Boston in 1861......I wonder did he fight in the Civil War. One of my ancestors, John Heavey, arrived in Boston some years earlier and was married to a Mary Killion (another Kiltoom name). They had 3 kids,William, Mary and James, born 1855,57,59. He enlisted in the Mass. 24th Vols., and died on Morris Island beside Charleston, S.C. on 8th August 1863 while serving with the above regiment. It is possible that these families were in contact as Irish people seek out each others company, particularly if they are from the same part of Ireland. They often helped each other and shared the news from home.
Regards
Mike Heavey.
