The John Hedgepeth listed in the 1820 Robeson Co., NC census is the brother of Jesse Hedgepeth of MS. In the 1830s, John Hedgepeth moved to Montgomery Co., AL (where he appears in the 1840 census) and then moved to adjoining Pike Co., AL, where he received land for his Mexican War service.

John and Jesse Hedgepeth, along with brothers William and Arthur Jr., were the sons of Arthur Hedgepeth Sr. of Robeson Co., NC. Arthur Sr. was the son of Benjamin Hedgepeth and wife Charity Braswell (dau. of Jacob Braswell of Edgecombe/Nash Counties, NC).

William and Arthur(Jr.) Hedgepeth remained in Robeson Co., NC.
