I think there may be a connection. My great great grandfather was Daniel Hegarty. He came from the County Cork, May have been from Skibbereen. He was born in May 1836 and baptized May 1836 in the parish of Skibbereen. He immigrated from the County Cork in 1849 with Ellen Hegarty (acc/to the "orion" manifest).Ellen and Danielarrived in New York City in August 1849.Daniel lived in Bloomington, Illinois and was an alderman there and business owner.I have seen a listing for a Jeremiah Hegarty in the 1870's and 1880's in Bloomington, as well as for my great great grandfather. The baptismal records in Ireland (we recently went to SKibbereen and asked the parish priest, Fr. Cotter) give my (I think) great great grandfather's parents as James Hegarty and Mary Whooley.THe only baptimsal record we could find for ellen Hegarty in Skibbereen parish listed her as having parents James Hegarty and Katherine Hurley, although other records show children born to James Hegarty and Kate Whooley (records might be wrong since they were in cursive and in Latin.)
I did some checking on ancestry.com and found an Ellen Hegarty that died in Minnesota in 1909, but I am unsure if she was my DAniel Hegarty's sister.
Please reply asap.Thanks, michon
