If Frederick Heidel from Portland was your grandfather, we are distant cousins.

Frederick Heidel's grandfather was Fred M Heidel found in Hillsboro, Oregon in the 1900 US Census. Fred M was a younger bro of my gr-grandfather Carl Frank Heidel who last lived in Fairmont, MN. Monika Heidel's gg-grandfather was another bro named August T Heidel. August last lived in Mankato, MN where my father was born. (See Monika and her sister Jennifer below.)

That for my post "Heidels from Kreis Demmin, Pommern" found below is about as short as I can write it, except to add there are so many like named Heidels in the old days, one is easy to confuse for another. Whether they were from the same clan or another one, especially once they came to America for reason they all were simply a Fred, Frank or Carl/Charles!

Also, that for my post "Green Lake Heidels in 1870 US Census" below is good, but requires a modest correction and an update.

Frederick's father was born in Kansas (likely Greenwood County), so do not let the other Heidels in Kansas fool you, too much. Very likely the connection to them is back in the Old World Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region in about 1700. There appears to have been one named Jürgen Heidel about the region who was the granddady of his all! It being hinted he had at least two wifes. You may interpret the semantics for the time and place for having 'two wifes' the way you wish.
