Looks as though there possibly was a change in spelling for their use of Heidel.
Could it have been that 'Heidel' was twisted into 'Hodel,' as well? In Burris Fork, Moniteau County, Missouri the 1900 US Census shows one named Joseph Hodel age 33, born in Ohio. His wife was Myrtle, age 30, son was Luther, age 6, and daughter was Natty, age 3.
Just something to keep in mind is that there is/was a township in NY state along the Erie Canal named "Ohio" and Heidels can be found there. Just a thought, as these Heidels on their passenger ship list appear to have shown their destination to have been "Ohio."
