Heidel Family Genealogy Forum

James, Thanks for the reply you had some good ideas. I have just started to research the Heidel Family Tree and I appreciate and comments or avenues. I have written a short synapse of the limited knowledge I have. I have sent for a interlibrary loan for the 1900 U.S. Census from the Philadelphia, PA. NARC. I am waiting to do further searching after I view the information.
My great-grandfather died in 1922, unfortunately, at a young age for a stomach ulcer. My grandfather was only four when Harry John Heidel died. My grandfather has limited knowledge about his father due to the young death of Harry Heidel.
My grandfather told me that his father was born somewhere in PA. He does not know a township or a county. This I have found is one of the worst parts of research. Harry Heidel supposedly had a large family and he was one of the youngest. The youngest in his family was a child named George Heidel, maybe. The story has been told that about 1894 the parents of Harry John Heidel died in a buggy wreck. The parents worked either in a tobacco factory or furniture factory. This fact is only speculative. The older children placed George and Harry into an orphanage. Harry presumedly was in the orphanage for a short time. I do not know if he would have been at the orphanage in the year 1900 due to the fact that when Harry was around 11,12 or 13, he was sent to a country farm in PA. and lived with a Medical Doctor doing chores around the farm. Harry ranaway from the farm because he was beat with a whip. At one point in time, Harry worked for the Ford Motor Company. Harry was a mechanic by trade. Harry came to Freeport, Illinois, in 1915, for Henry Ford as a custmer service representative. Harry, presumedly, had helped a local Ford dealership in Freeport, Ill. Harry met Norma Weckerly. Harry and Norma were wed. Harry and Norma had three kids. Harry died 10/20/22.
My grandfather gathered most of his information about his father from his mother's brother, Roy Weckerly. My family informatin sources are pretty lean.
I am fightin the fire of 1890, orphanage records and unreported wherabouts from 1894 to 1915 coupled with rumors. I am hoping to backdoor the sources and find somebody with a familia connection missing one or two family members or a unknown death of mother and father. If you have any direction I would love to hear advice. Thanks. Greg
