There can be found (or was once found) a WWI draft list on a Idaho GenWeb site that shows John Heidel and Alexander Fred (?) Heidel. For John this is the most conclusive birth date found for him so far. It is not the same date of birth given for the John Leonard Heidel in the Heidel family tree referenced here. This would make these John Heidels different, yet both born no more than two years apart in Kansas. John Leonard in Geary (maybe then Davis?) County (Or was it neighboring Riley County?) and the the other in Washington County which borders Riley County on the north.
Some of my interest here for Kansas Heidels is that a gr-gr uncle of mine migrated from Wisconsin to Greenwood County Kansas by 1880. His name was Frederick S. Heidel. From his 1900 US Census record it can be learned that 7 of his 9 surviving children were born in Kansas. In 1900 Fred Heidel and family had migrated to Hillsboro (Portland) Oregon.
