My ancestor is Henry Heisig. He married Francis Gomolka. My family line is Henry (abt. 1827) – Henry (abt. 1857) – Henry M. (1890) – Sallie (1920) (my mother).Henry (1857) and Henry (1890) moved to Milwaukee area and lived in the town of Shorewood.
It appears that Joseph had a farm next to the Gomolka family. An 1861 property plat for Windsor Township also shows an A. Heisig that had a farm abutting the Gomolke property. For the last few years I have been trying to find out the relationship between Henry and Joseph.I would also like to know who A. Heisig is.Maybe he is the third brother. From the census records, it appears that Henry and Joseph were from Prussia and some also say Silesia, Prussia, but I haven’t been able to find them yet in German documents. The US census doesn’t list an A. Heisig in 1860, but maybe it is buried there, as there are a lot of spelling variations.
Henry (1827) remained in Madison and the 1880 census shows him as being divorced and living on the same street as his Gomolke father/mother in-laws.
Joseph’s son Julius was the witness at my great grandfather’s wedding.
In relation to Joseph Heisig, I have the following:
U.S. Census image:1860 and 1880
WICensus:Listing that states Joseph Heisig is in 1855 WI census.I haven’t been able to see the census yet.
Internet Image of 1861 Partial Plat of Joseph’s Farm, Gomolke’s Farm and A. Heisig’s farm.
Internet Images of 1873, 1880, 1890 and 1899 plats showing Joseph’s farm.
Article with picture of Urban (baby) Otto, Joseph and Oscar (4 generations) from an unknown periodical.
If you would like any of these, please let me know.
