There might be a tenuous connection between your research and mine. Delmenhorst is very near to Bremen and from what I understand, there were 2 families by the name of Heitmann there before the second World War. My family lived in Staedinge Strasse, and the other one lived in Hansa Strasse, they were apparently unconnected. Might this have been one of your families?

On my side of the family, Johann Karl Christoph Heitmann (born 1856 in Mecklenburg) cites his profession as Corkcutter, and, from what I have been told, he worked in a linoleum factory near Delmenhorst. It is conceivable that if he was looking for work, he might go where relatives suggested that there were jobs. I know this is something of a long shot but it might be worth asking!

Good luck with your research.

Alison Reed
