First of all, if your gfather is still alive you should take the initiative and contact him- he has probably forgotten whatever went wrong 50 years ago and would love to hear from you. Living relatives are the best source of family info- and they don't live forever! I attempted to find some record of an Asta Heitman on two of my favorite spots- and but had no luck. I would think anyone her age who died in 1995 would be listed with soc. sec. and for $7 you can get the original record with her parents names, etc- would be very helpful-you might have her legal name wrong - have you looked at census records??
