I agree; I would love to connect with some HELLUM/HELM/HELMES experts. This family, perhaps because their surname is spelled several different ways, is eluding me. I am trying to find the origin of a lady named LaDora or Dora Helm, b. abt. 1869, who married George Washington CARPENTER in Red River County (Bagwell) TX in 1891. (The marriage record says "HELLUM.") She apparently died shortly after their marriage. I have also found a "HELMES" living in the same small town, but I can't connect them. Dora had a child who was called "CARPENTER," but she had the child (Victor, b. 1888) before she married Mr. CARPENTER, so I suspect the child simply went by her husband's name. The CARPENTER'S came from KY, so there's a possibility that the HELLUM family were from that region, also. If anyone knows of a family from this region with a similar name, I'd like to hear from you.
