I know how you feel and feel the same way about my William Hellums, born in SC about 1780 according to the 1850 census.
Can't find out anything about his family of origin. Guess he must have hatched under a cabbage leaf and just appeared. He obviously was in TN in the early 1800s where the first four of his 11 children were born. He was in Walker Co., AL in 1830 and in Yalbousha Co., MS by 1835 and in Pontotoc Co., MS by 1840 and died there in 1855. He had children named Jonathan, John H., Lewis Jackson, Robert Carroll, Wilson, Frances, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, Ann, Letty. Still need some help on William's ancestry. Would appreciate anything anyone has to offer.
