Could the surname be Wilhem? My family surname was Wilhelm until the 1870 Green County, KY Census. Up until the 1950's the people, in Green, Hart and Southern Larue Counties, pronounced the name as "Hellums" but it was spelled Helm. I remember asking my mother how HELM could be called Hellums. My GGG Grandfather was Abram "Abel" Wilhelm. My GG Grandfather died as a Union Soldier and his wife did not read and write so I'm sure the census taker dropped the Wil and recorded Helm.
