I believe that William Hellams (Hellums/Helloms) migrated into Laurens Co. from Orange Co., NC. My ancestor, James Downing of Laurens came himself from the Cane Creek area of Orange Co. His direct neighbor there was William Hellams (many spellings) There were a whole lot of folks who came into Laurens from that area.

I see on RootsWeb that someone has posted William Hellams birth date as 1720. Does anyone know if that's accurate?

I'm hoping to get more information about William Hellams, not because he's my ancestor, but because James Downing Sr. and William Hellams of Orange Co., were direct neighbors and probably friends. They were politically of like mind and very much the minority in the community.

If I can find out where he came from, then it may help me with my search for James Downing's roots.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts.
