I have an update to my last message re this. Apparently my grandfather's full name is/was Frederick Byron Helwig and he was an engineer (not as stated before) on the USS Arizona, when it had a stay in Britain/Glasgow whilst attached to the British Grand Fleet at the end of The First World War. He apparently came from Newark NJ and his parents were of Austian/German extraction. Hope this helps to get a reply.
