My grandmother was a daughter of Andrew Peter Helwig (b.~1870, Newark, New Jersey per 1880 census) and Marietta Byrd (Bertha) Proctor (b.~14 Jan 1874, Washington DC).They lived in DC until some time in the 1920s; Bertha was cared for by her daughter until her death 25 Mar 1933 (of TB/asthma). We later found out that Andrew Peter was living in New Jersey, and died sometime later in a hotel or apartment fire?

Andrew and Bertha had Francis Earles(1895-1901), John Helwig (1896-1912), Mildred Elizabeth (1900-?), Barry Kline (1903-1985), and Thelma Augusta (1905-1993)

Andrew's father was John Helwig (b.~1843, Saxony) and mother Louisa Ashenfelder (b.~1850, Bavaria).

As you can see, we have LOTS more questions than answers! Anything you can add would be of great interest to us.
