Terri, I have just learned that I am a direct descendent of Carlen Helvig, via his son Henry Helvey and his wife Susanna Gale. I didn't even know I had any Germans in my background, just that my g+ grandmother Catherine Barron was "Helvey" before she married and that the name of my own ggrandfather, Gale Barron Tyler, had entered our family because one of Catherine's uncles was a William Nathaniel Gale. The folks on the Helvey site filled me in on the rest.
