Welthy Hemstead (Hemsted ?), New London area
I am interested in gathering any possible information on my great grandmother Welthy Hempsted (sp?). She was born in the 1800's, married a man with the last name of Beckwith and is buried in Cypress Cemetary in Old Saybrook, CT. I have been told that she was somehow rejected by the family due to marrying a poor man or for marrying someone that was somehow not up to the family standard. If there is anyone with information on her- her ancestors or any children, or any other information, it would be greatly appreciated. My grandmother (Welthy's daughter) was born during some extremely big blizzard in the late 1800's (March 1st).Her name was Ellen Beckwith(from a first marriage)Crawford (from her second marriage). Welty's daughter died in 1972. Any information I come across about any other Hempsteds I will be glad to share. There are news clippings of some Hempsteds from the 2oth c. that I found in generations of family photographs from that side of the family. There are many photos that are probably close to if not more than a century old. Some I can tell are from the New LOndon and CT River area. Perhaps someone can help me identify people if these are Hempsteds or their houses. Many photos are unmarked without names, but don't resemble anyone on the Crawford side of my family (which I have plenty of info about).Sorry so long.Thank you. Mary Ellen Crawford
