Hi:
Elijah Henard is listed in the 1850 census in Hawkins County, TN.There is a newly married couple next to Elijah, William and Martha (age 17, born abt 1833) Rutherford.
William and Martha had a son named Elijah. However, Martha most likely died at child birth, abt 1853, but clearly she died as William later marries in 1854.Other than the first name, I have no idea who Martha is.
I have began to research the Henard's as many facts and circumstances indicate that perhaps Elijah Henard is her father.
They include the following:
1. William Rutherford sold land to Elijah Henard in 1854,
2. William Rutherford and Elijah Henard are listed next to each other in the Hawkins County, TN census,
3. William Rutherford's son is named Elijah, perhaps after Elijah Hammond.
4. There seems to be a hole in the string of dates listed for Elijah Henards children. It seems unlikely that Elijah would have gone approximately 7 years without having a child.
5. The 1840 Hawkins County, TN census lists 1 female under 5, 2 females between 5 and 10, and 2 females between 10 and 15.After reconciling the existing records, a female between 5 and 10 in not accounted for... Martha would have been approximately 7 years in 1840.
Would you have any additional information in your Hendard research that may be helpful to me?
Thanks,
Doug
