John Henegar-Monroe County
According to the genealogist for the Madisonville Public Library John Henegar (Aug. 22,1880 to Aug. 21,1920) had only one daughter, Johny Josephine Henegar, who was given up for adoption or taken by the state and sent to an orphanage in Nashville. Her mother was Minnie Henegar and Minnie was pregnant with Josephine when John died, apparently from a blow to the head by Joe Mode.
Minnie was the illegitimate daughter of Doctor Kimbrough, who sighned John Henegar's death certificate, examined John before he died, and testified at the trial as to the cause or apparent cause of his death. Minnie worked for the Stickley(sp)family of Monroe County. A very powerful family.
Joe Mode insisted that he was innocent throughout the trial and was originally charged with first degree murder, but was given the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter, which he also fought.
