In Reply to: Surname Origin by Henricus Johannes Henkes of 282

The biggest influx of Henkes came from Posen Provence Prussia around 1830 and settled in Minn. & Wisc. They were devout Lutherens and I was able to find birth, marriage & death records for my husbands family for four generation out of one church's records. As to the origin of the surname, that's not so good The Henke's were executinors in Old Prussia. The name is now as common in Germany as Jones is here.
