Hi,

My maternal ancestors were called Henke.

I know the real meaning of this name (no hangmans or brewer...).

Henke has is origin in the form Hanneke/Henneke, which is a short form for Heinrich or Johann.

That means the first man who were wearing this surname had a father with one of these forenames.

Because these forenames were very popular in Germany, there are many families called Henke today.
