Someone had mentioned they thought it was a Catholic orphanage but I don't have any name or proof of that.
I live in NC, so no easy way for me to check that info. If you find something out I'd sure appreciate hearing what you find.
I was wondering myself why the grandparents would place the kids in an orphanage and it may just be that they couldn't handle that many children along with their own, due to health problems or something.
Do you know when or how Mary died? I figure there's a span there between 1866 (after the last ones birth) and 1870 when they're found in the census that something happened to both parents.Must have been pretty traumatic to have lost both parents at such young ages, and then lose that final connection with the grandparents! I did finally find the Henneberry family in the 1860 census, but listed as Henneberg. Another spelling, Sheesh! LOL
