HENNESSY of Cork & Bristol
Maurice HENNESSY, born Cork, Ireland, founded 'Maurice Hennessy & Son, Commission Salesmen & Hog & Cattle Dealers' of West Street, Bristol, England.Also victualler of the 'Black horse Inn', West Street, Bristol.He died at Clifton, Bristol, in 1874.
His son, Joseph (1824, Cork - 1887, Bristol) married Mary and had 8 children, all born in Clifton:
1. Maurice Joseph (c.1851-1905) m. Mary Theresa 'Minnie' and had Francis Joseph Martin (1873-1948, who m Elizabeth Marion GLASS); Maurice John (born 1875); Bernard J. (born 1881), and Marianne (m Jonathan HEARNE in 1901).
2. John W. (born 1852) m Josephine RYAN of Waterford. He discoevred two new bays in the Gulf of Papua, in 1889.
3. Annie Mary (1854-1932) m Wilfred OATES, publisher of Messrs. Burns & Oates of Portman Square, London.They had Wilfred Bernard J. (born 1880); Annie Marie H. (born 1879; m Philip Bernard TURNBULL of Cardiff, and had Everilda, Sheila and Maurice Joseph); Winifred; Gertrude and Renfric.
4. Abigail Philomena (1855-1931) m. James Macready CHUTE and had one son, Desmond (1895-1962).
5. James Martin Joseph (1860-91).
6. Mary Margaret 'Madge' (born 1864) m. Jack HEARNE of Waterford.
7. Walter (born c.1866).
8. Bernard (died 1960) m. Winifred Johanna, who was living in Bournemouth in 1950.
