Mrs. Julia (____) Hennessy, who died at her residence No. 315 Superior Street, was one of the more estimable ladies of this city.Born in the Town of Thomastown, Kilkenny, about three-quarters of a century ago, she, with her family, emigrated to American in 1857, settling at Albany, NY, where she gained the affection and esteem of people of all classes.About 12 years ago she came to Chicago where a portion of her family had preceded her, and she soon became as popular in Chicago as in Albany, and all who had the good fortune to form her acquaintance will miss in her a good neighbor and a true friend.Pious, gentle, and charitable, a devout member of the Catholic church, she was an exemplar to all, and her memory will long be cherished by the residents of the North Side, and particularly by the people of the Holy Name parish.Of 12 children, nine survive her, among them Peter J., Major of the 2nd Regiment, Patrick M., Richard, and Thomas, who are among the most respected businessmen in Chicago. Her entire family were present at her death-bed and consoled by her last moments.Fortified by the right of the Church, of which she was a devoted member, she passed to that place where the weary are at rest and where virtue and goodness meet a just reward.Mr. John Hennessy and Mrs. Mary Quinn, two of her children resident in Albany, have been in Chicago since Mrs. Hennessy was overtaken by fatal sickness.
