I have a letter dated Nov 14, 1927 from a Mrs. John Henning and Family from Knittlingen Wurttenberg:

Our dear Realitives.,

We were greatly surprised that we have relatives in the far distance. It greatly pleased us to learn thru Mayor that the relatives in the west are interested in us.

I am the daughter Sophie of Phillip David Trautwein who was born Aug. 30, 1844 in Knittlingen. In 3870-71 he was drafted into service and returned Dec. 11 1871 to Knittlingen. In 1872 he Married. In the same year a brother and sister died, and they had intended to come to America---going as far as Hamburg. In Hamburg, they found they did not have the necessary cash to come to America and returned to their home. Father died at the age Or 86, a war pentioner. My mother died 10 years previous to father. My father lived with us two and one half yeras before his death--having had a light stroke which develped into dropsy.

Dear relitives in the far distance you must have fared better than we and werre I still young and single I would be temped to come over but I am the mother of six chilren--the oldest daughter is twenty years old so I can not think of it.

My husband is a stone mason but business is slacke and income os rather meager. On account of having to pay such heavy taxes it makes it very hard.

The last year was exceptionaly bad. I had an accident. I fel and was in the hospital for six weeks and still under the Doctor's care.

We are very glad that you folks remembered us after so many years and hope to hear from you all again soon.

With love to you all,

Mrs. John Henning and Family

Knittlingen Wurttemberg.

I tried to type the letter exactly as it was typed. From what I know, someone (I don't know who) was doing some family history and wrote to Knittlingen. Somehow Mrs. John Henning got the letter and wrote back. The sad thing is, I have no address from where the letter came from. I sure hope someone out there can put a little more light on the subject.

Terry L. Carter
