Our branch of the Henning family came to NY via Canada in 1776; although most histories have our ancestor, Hugh Henning, as born in Kirkcudbright, Scotland, my grandfather, whose grandmother was a Henning, said he was told the Hennings migrated from Northern Ireland to Scotland, then left Kirkcudbright for North America. He was to connect with 2 brothers living in New York City at the time, but was not allowed to disembark because of the Revolution, so instead went to NovaScotia. The only Hennings I can find living in NY in 1790 were a John Henning and a Joseph Henning. The 1790 NY census gives no further info. I have reached an impasse on locating the Henning family in the UK.
If you have any ideas, they would be appreciated!
