James Carl Hensley Sr, 84, Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away
peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Martinsville
Memorial Hospital, Martinsville, VA.
He was born in Appalachia, VA, August 6, 1925. He was a
decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy
from 1943-1946.
He is survived by four children, Sandra Farrell, Judy
Purkey, Danny Hensley, and James C. Hensley, Jr.; five
grandchildren, Jamie Newsome, Dustin Purkey, Chasity
Eastridge, and Tyler Hensley; one great grandchild, James
Newsome; three brothers, William Hensley, Cecil Hensley,
and J. R. Grant; and one sister, Marie Willis.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.,
Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Bethesda Church of God,
E. 6th Street, in the Italy Bottom section of Big Stone
Gap, VA.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday,
February 15, 2010, at the church, with the Rev. Donnie
Pickett officiating.
He will be laid to rest at The American Legion Cemetery,
Rt. 610 (or the 5000 Blk of Powell Valley Road), Big Stone
Gap, VA.
