Dear Charles:
After going through my emails, I wondered if I had ever answered your =
reply.
What I have written is basically all I have.I am working on this for =
my sister. Her husband is a Hereford.I tried all the basic places =
(IGI, etc). and found nothing. That is why I put it on genforum.com.
I haven't found much more other than it seems that James Robert Hereford =
was born in Montgomery, Missouri (I just found out today). The story is =
that his mother, Esther Mae (or Mae Esther), died shortly after =
childbirth (1921).Her husband, Henry Elfline (sp?) could not handle =
raising a child on his own, sho Mae's sister Gertrude adopted him, =
giving him the family surname Hereford.=20
William Minafee is the oldest name I have on that line.I am not able =
to go back farther from the resources I have.
I would appreciate any info with which you might supply me, or any =
suggestions.
My sister's mother-in-law, the wife of James R. (Elfline) Hereford said =
that her husband's family was connected with the Herefords who were in =
Texas and there were at some point seven brothers, one of whom 'was in =
literature' (a writer perhaps?).Phyllis is quite elderly and her =
memory is very sketchy at best about her husband's family. They were in =
the military so they did not spend much time around 'home' to pick up =
the detai.
ls
Thanks so much,
Kathy
