Hi Alice,
I don't know if you found anything at all, but I am interested in finding out about the CA Herndons.I can tell you that my Great Grandparents, Percy F. Herndon and Lillian Herndon, had a farm in Ceres, CA (near Modesto, north of Fresno), and back when CA government was building highway 99 (1940's maybe?), they decided to build it right through the family farm. When the govt bought the land from the family, Percy got to name some of the streets in the area. Thus, in Ceres, CA (and Modesto), there is a Herndon Rd, a Joyce rd (My mother, who was a baby at the time), a Nadine (my great aunt).I have heard that there were also both a Virginia and a Florence road, but I don't find them on any maps.I don't know if this is because they have been renamed, or if they never were named that.
I doubt that the town of Herndon has anything to do with my family, as it is a good 80 miles south of Ceres, but any info that you have would be wonderful. All I know is that Percy's father was Benjamin Herndon, and maybe married a woman named Lucinda Cook, but I'm not sure if that was in CA or not.Perhaps Mo.
