Elbert Co. was formed Dec 1790 from Wilkes Co., GA. The early Herndons shown as heads of households in Elbert Co. were: 1820 census: Edward, Sr. and Jr., James, Michael and Susannah. 1830 census: Edward, Dillard, Michael and Susannah. 1840 census: Benjamin, Dillard, Michael and Susannah. Early Herndon marriages in Elbert Co. were: James Herndon and Sarah Thornton 30 Mar 1814, Edward Herndon and Nancy Brown 17 Aug 1820, Benjamin Herndon and Mahulda Almand 27 Nov 1834, Michael Herndon and Elizabeth Cook 17 Dec 1840, Thomas Herndon and Sarah Ann Terrell 20 Oct 1842, William T. Herndon and Catherine E. Hulme 30 Nov 1848. No census records available for 1800 and 1810.
