Herndon Family Genealogy Forum
I am still trying to learn about the Virginia Herndons. There was one such man (whose name I don't know) who married a Wilafred or Winefred, or Wilaford (whose maiden name I don't know) anyway, this Wilefred Herndon was born about 1807 in GA with parents born in Virginia. As you can see I have VERY little information to go by. All I know aobut this lady is that she appears on the 1880 Robertson Co., TX census with her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, who was born in Alabama, with father born in GA and mother born SC (I know doesn't make sense--but that is normal). Anyway both of these ladies were buried in the Thompson Creek Cemetery in Brazos County, Texas (next door to Robertson Co., TX). Winefred Herndon died in 1885 and her daughter, Elziabeth Smith, died in 1902. This widow, Elizabeth Smith, was listed on the 1900 census also in Robertson Co. TX, saying she was born in AL in March 1847, with father born VA and mother born GA! I can't find either of them in the 1870 census. On the 1880 census there were also two other Herndon men, Jacob W. Herndon (b. 6/12/1854 VA, and Edward Anderson Herndon, b. 9/17/1857, VA. According to Ancestry.com postings I have seen, these men were sons of John Pannil Herndon, b. 1/16/1829, who was the son of a Jacob Whisler Herndon b. 6/9/1784 VA, who was the son of an Edward Herndon b. 1/15/1761 VA. It appears from the Ancestry.com postings that this Edward Herndon had only 2 known children, this Jacob Whisler Herndon and a daughter named Elizabeth. When I looked at the other children of Jacob Whisler Herndon, it didn't appear that any of them could have been married to a lady named Wilafred, so I wonder if anyone knows about any other children of Edward Herndon b. 1/15/1761, who could possibly have been married to this Wilafred Herndon. I haven't been able to find any earlier census data on Wilafred, so wondered if any of you have any more leads for me in trying to figure out who this Wilafred Herndon was married to.
Thanks. I have posted before, but so far, I'm not much wiser.
