Catherine:
I checked the Herrick Family Association database of over 35,000 names for a Harty Herrick to no avail. I also could not find a Joshua Haley, Celestia Haley, or Anson A. Perkins on said db.
Next I went to the Vital Records of Worthington, Massachusetts to the year 1850, published by the NEHGS at the charge of The Eddy Town-Fund, Boston, Mass., 1911, and I found these two entries.
Page 94 of Worthington, MA Marriages records:
"HERRICK, Harty and Joshua Haly, Sept. 13, 1801 [sic, ? 1831].* [Harty Hinnes, Sept. 13, 1831, C. R.]"
Page 93 of Worthington, MA Marriages records:
"HALY (see Haley), Joshua and Harty Herrick, Sept. 13, 1801 [sic, ? 1831].* [Harty Hinnes, Sept. 13, 1831, C. R.]"
Where (C. R.) = church record, Church of Christ, Worthington, and (*) = Intention not recorded.
The "sic" & "?" implies a data extraction error for the date, which may well be that 1831 is correct and 1801 is the date that was extracted from the original record in error.
I also suspected that Harty Herrick may have been Harty Hinnes, but I found only one entry on said vital records for Hinnes. It on page 95 of Worthington Marriages and it reads:
"HINNES, Harty, (see Harty Herrick)."
So therein lies a mystery. Perhaps if you were able to see the original handwritten records you would be able figure out a solution.
I realize this is only a small bit of help to your posting. It does imply that their age in 1880 is more consistant with a marriage year of 1831 when Harty would have been 24 or 25 years old and Joshua would have been 30 or 31 years old.
Relatively yours,
