They are not history book per se. They are Family History books or Genealogical Registers. The books are divided into chapters that detail the descendants of a given child of Henery HERICKE of Salerm & Beverly, MA. A combination ID/generation number is given sequentially to each descendant as they are entered in the books. Calvin is number 2359 that was entered and he is the 6th generation from Henery of Salem. Ephraim HERRICK settled in Beverly, MA, hence the title for the chapter about him and his descendants is Ephraim of Beverly.
The 1885 book is available on FTM Online. I am not sure how to get there, maybe enter a query on their Family Finder Index for Calvin HERRICK will give you a hit to get to the book, pages 100, 101 & 102. My point about errors concerns at least two areas.
First, the books claim that Henery HERICKE was the 5th son of Sir William HEYRICKE of Leicestershire and London. That is a big mistake. A group of five researchers combined their research over the last three years to prove beyond any doubt that the son of the knight, Henry of Beaumanor, emigrated to Virginia by March of 1641, and he was in England during May 1630 & November 1634 whilst Henry of Salem was in New England from July 1629 having arrived in Salem with the Higginson-Skelton fleet of Puritans. We found three signatures of each Henry and those of Henry of Salem do not match those of Henry of Beaumanor.
At your request I will send a copy of this report to your address at AOL.COM. There are two formats available. 1st, a WORD 97 document, <.doc> format, and 2nd a plain text document, <.txt> format.
Second, in the case of the 6 children of my 3rd great-grandparents their d.o.b.'s are entered in each book as a year only. After 27 years of trying to find who they were I finally saw their family Bible and the d.o.b.'s in the Bible were a month, day & year that were from 5 to 7 years after the year only dates in the books.
There are other error of the above proportions in the books. In some cases the books do not agree with each other. That is a situation I discovered by putting both books on the same database.
If you want a copy of the 1885 book it has been put on Fiche cards by University Microflms International of Ann Arbor, MI. A copy of the fiche cards should be available at any local LDS Family History Center near you from the LDS Church Family History Library in Salt Lake City. You should be able to print out the 516 plus pages from the fiche cards for probably 25 cents a copy at an FHC. I do not know where you are but I do know that the State of Michigan Library in Lansing, MI and the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne , IN have copies of the book on fiche. They charge 10 cents a page for copies. I believe the NEHGS of Boston sells a shrink wrap set of the 1885 book ready for a three-hole binder. Some of the Internet booksellers may have a hard or soft bound version for sale as well, probably for less than $100.00.
