A family of Heslins were somehow connected to the family of Terence Tully (1835-1921). He was born in Killoe Parish, near Ballinamuck, Co Longford, Ireland. Rev. Patrick McKeon married him to Mary Flaherty on St. Valentine's Day, 1859, in Drumlish Parish Church, Co Longford. Witnesses were James Maher and Mary Kiernan. Terence and Mary left Ireland and came to NYC around 1860.
In a family album belonging to their son Joe Tully were pictures of three young women, photographed at Feinberg Studios, 16 West 14th St., NYC. On the backs of the pictures were the words:
"To Joe: Best Wishes. Your Cousin, Mary L. Heslin. Sept. 11th, '98"
"With Love, Your Cousin, Doretta Heslin, Sept. 11th, 1898"
"With Love to Cousin Joe. Flora A. Heslin. Sept. 11, '98"
Presumably the Joe is Joe Tully. The date of Sept. 11, 1898, was one day prior to the wedding day of Joe's cousin, Frances Tully, and Arthur A. Wilson in Brooklyn. Frances was the daughter of Denis and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Martin) Tully. The Wilson family was English.
Census records show:
MICHAEL HESLIN, b Sep 1847 Ireland
The 1870 and 1880 censuses show the family in Claremont, Sullivan Co NH. At the time of the 1900 census Michael, his wife and daughters were living on Troy Avenue near Malbone St. in Brooklyn NY. George was also in Brooklyn in 1900 with his wife, Elizabeth, and son Arthur A. Heslin, born Oct 1899 in NY. (Note that Fanny Tully's husband was named Arthur A. Wilson.)
George's address in 1900 was listed as 1191 "Segraw". Probably this should be DeGraw St. In 1906 Fanny Wilson was living at 1231 DeGraw St.
Terence Tully's maternal uncle was Patrick Fox of 49 South Margin St., Boston MA. Patrick's wife's name is not known. Mary Flaherty's mother's maiden name was Dolan. Other surnames in the Tully pedigree chart are Doris (possibly spelled Dorris), Devany, Lynch, Waide and Rogers. Except for the appearance of these names on the chart, I know nothing about these five families.
I have no idea how the the Heslin girls may be connected to their "cousin Joe".
