Harold Heslop (Author) and family.
Hello :)
I've recently been able to purchase a copy of the autobiography of Harold Heslop, "Out of the Old Earth" (see http://online.northumbria.ac.uk/faculties/art/humanities/cns/m-heslop.htmlhttp://online.northumbria.ac.uk/faculties/art/humanities/cns/m-heslop.html ).
He was either my paternal grandmother's cousin or uncle, which is where the confusion starts!
My grandmother was Vera Taylor (ree Thomson) from Crook Co.Durham, born around 1908. Her father was a Thomson and mother a Heslop.
Family history tells of how she fell pregnant out of wedlock to my grandfather, George Taylor who was considered as below her family and she was subsequently disowned and cut off from them.
She used to tell me stories about one of her brothers who ran away to become a sailor, but I can't remember his name.
I have only just started reading the book, but there are some family names at the start:
Harold Heslop was from New Hunwick. His parents were William Heslop and Isobel Heslop(Whitfield). William's father George Heslop was cousin (their fathers were brothers) to Michael Heslop who was the manager of the pit.
I'd love to hear from anybody who can shed some light on my family, and I will post more information from the book as i read it if anyone is interested.
Cheers
Angela
