My grandfather James J. Hesson emigrated to NYC and worked first as an oysterman, then as a restaurant manager for Child's Restaurant in 1886. He was born in Ireland in 1872. On the 1900 census he is shown as Hasson, but no alive now has ever heard of that spelling. Even his first son, John Vincent had Hasson on his birth certificate (1899). James followed Child's restaurant around to New Haven, Conn, Boston and Newark, N.J. Supposedly John Costello who was a policeman in Brooklyn NY married a relative, Mae. They later moved to Conn. James married Winifred Theresa Boyle from County Mayo and had John, James, Marian, Sinclair, William and Georgie.
