Bob,I'm very interested in this exchange regarding Hewes in Ohio.
I'm researching my Huse/Hues/Hughes/Hewes et al ancestors and I think there may be a connection.
My 3d great-grandfather, Ira Huse, moved to Geauga Co OH from Durham Co NY in mid 1830's.He had a brother, Josiah, whose name I recently came across in the 1850 and 1860 census records for Albany Co, Rensselaerville.
The reason I think there may be a connection is the name on Beverly's list:Hewes, Lucy R. Weeden.
Josiah Huse had a son Weeden Huse (b. ca 1845) and a daughter Lucy (Lucifene) Huse (b. ca 1848).I also wonder about the name Ara Hewes - doesn't that sound close to Ira?
Ira Huse's son, Israel Ferris Huse, married Mary Ann Scott in 1851 in Chardon OH.His marriage record spells his name HEWES.
These people may also have a connection to the Rickerson family of Greene Co NY, and the names Ira and Orrin appear frequently.
Do you think this might be more than coincidence?
I'd appreciate hearing from you.
