The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Saturday, June 30, l877 ARRESTED. -- The Afton Tribune says that MRS. BRISTER, the wife of JOHN L. BRISTER, who was murdered by JAMES L. BURNETT, in Creston, Union County, two years ago last August, has been arrested lately for complicity in the crime. Our readers will remember that BURNETT was sent here for safe keeping, and escaped soon afterwards, with other prisoners. The murder was a most foul one, the culmination of a long criminal intimacy between BURNETT and BRISTER's wife. After BURNETT escaped, MRS. BRISTER left Creston and married a man named HIBBARD, and now has a child three months old, by him. She was arrested at Oskaloosa the other day on the testimony of her little daughter, aged fourteen years, who was present when the murder was committed. ------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert March 8, 2004 Nancee's Note: You can find the 'Murder Story' on the Lucas County, Iowa WebSite at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/obituaries/index.cgi?read=374l5 Notify Administrator about this message?
