Hi there!
I think we're related! If I am looking at all the information I've been able to find correctly, our lines tie in together perfectly. And, what's really cool is that we meet up where the other ends.
My name is Brian Rukes, one of two sons of Charles DeWayne Rukes, Jr. (b. Sept 2, 1950) and E. Kaye Jones (b. April 4, 1954; d. March 16, 1993).Dad is the son of Charles DeWayne Rukes, Sr. (b. June 14, 1926--if memory serves me correctly) and LaVerne Ruth Dye (now Crumley).Grandma (LaVerne) is the daughter of Vern "Vernie" Howard Dye (b. Sept. 17, 1901; d. Dec. 4, 1987), who is the son of Winfield Scott Dye and Rebecca P. Hidy.
I'm just getting into the Hidy research good, but I am confident that we link up.I'm sure our Rebecca P. Hidy is the same Rebecca as you have as the 3rd child of Phillip Hidy and Sarah Elizabeth Ralph.Info that we had before I started researching said that our Rebecca P. Hidy was the daughter of Phillip Hidy (b. in Ohio) and Sarah Ralph (b. in New Jersey, from Ireland).
We have a variety of different middle names and/or spellings thereof for Rebecca P. Hidy. They include Prescilla, Priscilla, Precillia, and even Patricia. We're not sure which is right.
Rebecca P. Hidy was born on October 26, 1867 at (or near) Lacelle, Clarke County, Iowa. She died on July 7, 1952, in El Reno, Oklahoma.
We have the remains of an old letter from the family, but we were having difficulty figuring out how it tied in with everything, and how everyone listed therein was related exactly. It is a letter from Joseph Hidy addressed to his son Jacob, the letter being sent to "Lasell P.O., Clark Co, Iowa"--which we know is merely a phonetic misspelling of Lacelle P.O. in Clarke County. The bottom of the letter shows that Philip (or Phillip--I don't have the letter in hand to verify the spelling) had received full payment for the land. The letter was dated 2-14-1863.
Based on my research thus far, it looks like Phillip (or Philip) Hidy is the son of Jacob Hidy, who is in turn the son of Joseph Hidy.I've found record of a Joseph Hidy (b. Jan 13, 1783; d. Dec 6, 1878) who married at least three times, once to a Sarah Shepard (or Shepherd), by which he had two sons, Jacob (b. Jan 20th or 28th, 1811) and Isaac.I'm not sure if that's the right Jacob Hidy, though, for us to match up to.It does seem to work out year-wise, though.
I would love to discuss the Hidy history with you and other Hidy researchers in greater detail.I haven't noticed anyone who seems to know much about the Clarke Country, Iowa connection, though. However, it is clear that some of the Hidys did make it here to Oklahoma.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Respectfully,
Brian Rukes
