There may be a generation missing here. The Jacob born in 1739 married Barbara. They had a son, Jacob (1755--1806), who married, in 1779, Catherine Howard (1762--?), whose father was John. See HOWARD GENFORUM, message number 3146. There has been a bit of confusion or disagreement on this but the dates work better this way. Jacob (1739) was a R.S. John Howard is said to have been in the French & Indian War and a R.S.
