Hi Fran,

I'm descended from Nellie Hiers (1829 - 1885) who married George Carter (1823 - 1881). They were both born in Colleton County, SC and lived much of their lives in Barnwell and Bamberg Counties. I know nothing of Nellie's parents (though census data suggests that Richard is one of the viable candidates for her father). George's mother was named Sarah and he had brothers named Philip, John & David (Philip and David were twins born in 1820). I'd be greatful for any advice that you can give about where to look for information about the Carters and Hiers' of Colleton County.

Thanks,
Chuck McConnell
