looikng for ancestors of David R. Hilderbrand.
Born about 1866 in the area of Wheeling.
and info would be appreciated.

I have a Death Certificate and obit for David R. Hilderbrandd.. It says he was born in Wheeling PA, but Wheeling is in West Virginia.. Father UNKNOWN Mother: Anna Simpson
I wrote to several of the larger churches in the Wheeling area , both in West Virginia and Pennsylvania but none of them answered my letter. I also wrote to a number of the County Clerks in the area of Wheeling, but no answers….
someone told me that records were scarce around 1866 because it was during the war... and not many records were kept...
It has just came to my attention that there is a 1875 and 1880 Kansas census records) that David was also known as David R. Clawson, but I don't know where the Clawson would have come in.... i have not come across it anywhere else. another puzzle to solve

With help, I now have a Marriage License from Jackson Co., Missouri on 10-11-1870 between Joseph Simpson and Annie Clawson... what a find! now the puzzle has a new twist...
How did David R (Reno/Rayno) Hilderbrand born in 1866 in PA or West Virginia start out in
1875 Labbette, Labette Co., KS state census as
R. Clawson... 8 years old; then
1880 London, Sumner Co., KS Fed Census shown as David Clawson 14 yrs old; then
1885 Bennett, Kingman Co., KS state census as Reno Simpson 18 yrs old ; then
1888 Kingman Co., KS get a marriage license as David R. Hilderbrand with Mary L. Majors....

Was Annie Clawson married to David's father ??... as a Hilderbrand or Clawson... is Clawson her maiden name ...
what a puzzle
